Garden Tour Reminder

Just wanting to put a reminder out there for garden tour enthusiasts that the 8th annual Noe Valley Garden Tour, in which I am participating by showing my own garden, is just a week away! Tony and I have been pruning and cleaning and getting it all set to go, so I hope there’s a large turnout! 🙂 It can be a great treat for a garden-loving mom, to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Noe Valley Garden Tour

Saturday, May 11. 10am-4pm.

There are 11 gardens on the tour this year, with tea to be had at each, plus venues offering a wine and cheese reception and water stations. Proceeds this year benefit structural renovations in the garden at the Noe Valley branch of the SF Public Library. I first posted about it a couple of weeks back.

Tix are $15, seniors $12. You can enjoy the tour for free if you volunteer for two hours at one of the gardens, directing people and taking tickets… There’s a shuttle to schlep you around the neighborhood if you need the ride, or you can wing it on your own (best to park centrally and walk or bus around, rather than drive from garden to garden. You’ll want to tackle parking as infrequently as you can.) You’ll get your map to the gardens once you’ve purchased your tickets.

My good friend and gardening comrade, Charmain Giuliani, will be in one of the gardens, giving workshops on container gardening. She’s a valued instructor in the Environmental Horticulture department at City College of San Francisco, teaching plant ID and intro classes, as well as cornering the market on the more horticulturally artistic classes that focus on such topics as color theory and container planting. Outside of CCSF she teaches botanical drawing, and writes and lectures on all things plant-related. Her encouragement inspired me not only to volunteer as a gardener on Alcatraz, but also to enter an essay contest that led to me becoming a contributor to Pacific Horticulture magazine. I can’t say enough good things about her.

All gushing aside, here are the pertinent links:

  • NVGT official page. (Details on the tour and supporting venues, as well as how to volunteer.)
  • Online Tickets. (You can also buy tickets at places listed on the official page link above.)

See you in the gardens!

May + June Garden Conservancy Bay Area Garden Tours!

    • Thanks for that link, Sandra! The Garden Conservancy sponsors the Alcatraz Gardens restoration, and I’m a big fan. A worthwhile alternative to the neighborhood tour I mentioned…

  2. I love the corner garden pic. I am always trying to achieve that kind of idyllic scene in the garden.
